CRU Facilities

The CRU Groningen makes it possible to do clinical research and provide patients with the necessary (specialized) medical care. Together we can take the next step in improving both healthcare and research.

CRU Facilities

The CRU Groningen makes it possible to do clinical research and provide patients with the necessary (specialized) medical care. Together we can take the next step in improving both healthcare and research.

Patient and treatment facilities

The CRU Groningen has a state-of-the-art treatment room (including a scrub room) with a sheet of 2 mm thick lead incorporated within the walls. This affords the ability to perform invasive, sterile (treatment) procedures, including the use of x-ray, with the need for extensive patient monitoring, including bedside monitoring and telemetry. The CRU Groningen has thirteen patient beds divided over four rooms. There are recreational rooms and sanitary facilities.

Research facilities

The CRU Groningen has several research facilities such as a sample processing and urine lab, storage rooms with fully temperature monitored freezer and fridge and other research equipment. Furthermore there will be ICON supported quality systems, IT infrastructure and equipment validation.

Medical Imaging Center (MIC)

The UMCG hosts many core facilities, ranging from facilities for fundamental research questions to certified clinical research environments; from molecular imaging to patient and population cohorts.
One of these is the MIC, providing the medical imaging infrastructure and support for state-of-art research, from preclinical studies to clinical trials. The MIC offers broad multidisciplinary expertise on medical imaging like PET, SPECT, MRI and CT to support researchers.

Unique collaboration

This unique collaboration between the UMCG and ICON results in a purpose-built unit, combining the expertise and infrastructure of an academic hospital and the commercial focus of a renowned clinical research organization. As partners we enhance the quality of early phase studies performed within the UMCG, as well as provide the opportunity for ICON to conduct early phase studies with moderate and severe patients and studies with invasive assessments. Combining knowledge and expertise acts as a catalyst for the rapid, innovative and high-quality development of medicines: healthcare improves research, and research improves healthcare. This will, of course, benefit both research and patient.
